Revolution Teams Progress to Smith Cup & Plate Finals

Revolution A and E teams raised their games to secure a place each in the Smith Cup and Plate finals to be held at Elstow TTC on Monday 24th April. The E team consisting of Joe Peckham, Alex Gubler and Harrison Emery beat the Bedford League Division Three winners Kempston A by 24 points. Going into their last match 30 points ahead, after a 111 points starting advantage, it was left up to eleven year old Harrison requiring 15 points against Beds Cadet No. 3 Ollie Horswell to secure the overall team win. Undeterred Harrison won the first game 11-9 and his 6-11 loss in the second game was sufficient to see the team move into the finals. He only lost the third and fourth games 10-11, 9-11 so a great result under pressure.

The A team consisting of Steve Silk, John Alsop and Ian Baldock had to give away 13 points to Bedford League Division One runners-up, Elstow A, who were fielding Tom Nowakowski, Colin Luscombe and John Simms. Ian Baldock played some outstanding table tennis during the evening including taking a game off Tom Nowakowski. John Alsop managed to hold off Luscombe from causing some damage by coming back in two games from six point leads by Luscombe. However, it was Steve Silk’s match against Simms that gave the A team a healthy lead going into the last match resulting in a 24 point win and a place in the final.
