Congratulations to Revolution C and E teams who progressed through to the semi-finals of the Smith Cup and Plate competitions respectively. The C team comprising Josh Hallam, Usman Subhani and Trevor Beard convincingly defeated first division side Biggleswade with two matches in hand. Playing on his birthday, Josh Hallam had an unexpected present with an outstanding 4-0 win against the experienced Harvey Cross.
The E team consisting of Bob Barron, Ram Dinakar and Sam Manning defeated second division Southill A by just eight points. Sam was on top form and took two legs off the former first division player Sam Taheri. Bob Barron playing the last match needed seven points to win the match and it started less than well as he went 0-10 down but took some chances and grabbed two valuable points in the first end. He took another four points in the second game before closing the match out 5-11, 3-11 in the last two legs.
Commiserations to Revolution A who, playing away to Phoenix C, went 25 points down against the handicap after five matches. John Alsop then pulled 10 points back followed by Keith McConnell pulling back a further 14 points. Dave Beddall started his match well keeping to the handicap in the first three legs but unfortunately the fourth game went disastrously wrong and he lost it 7-11. John then had to keep his last match down to 8 points to win. However, after winning the first leg 11-2, a few chances of fortune and a couple of missed forehands left him needing to win the last two games 11-0 to just draw the match and that proved a mountain too high.
Revolution F found themselves up against an in form Harve Swamynathan, chairman of Bedford Community, as he caused the most damage in their loss by 49 points in the Plate competition. Alasdair Simmons and Paul Armstrong took some valuable legs off Pete Wood but Harve and Ronnie Tannis kept the Revolution team from progressing further.
