A brilliant performance by the County Senior squad this weekend winning promotion from Division 2B after remaining unbeaten over both days. Jon Hall and Kieran Smith were unbeaten on the Saturday and Sunday respectively and 11 year old Violet-Lily, whilst only ranked 112 in the Seniors won 8 out of 10 matches, all against higher ranked players, including England No. 27 Rachael Iles. Sarah Hudson took a while to get started but contributed a win in her last match on the Saturday and Matt Evans was in fine form remaining unbeaten on the Saturday but lost a match against the Bucks No.1 in five sets on the Sunday. Sixteen year old Ben Dunkley looked as though he could have been playing at a higher ranking than county No. 4 as he polished off some solid wins but manged to unexpectedly drop a match on both days against opponents he would normally expect to beat. ... Sixteen year old, Heidi Oestreicher, currently ranked 43 in the England Junior Girls, has timed her preparation for the National Schools Individual Championship to perfection. A week ago, Heidi represented the county senior squad and played extremely well in her debut beating Kent's Abbie Hurley, ranked 10 places higher and Buck's Rachael Iles ranked 12 places higher and just missing out on defeating Hert's Samadhi Udamulla, England No. 13 junior, losing 15-17 in the fifth set.At this weekend's National U19 Girls competition on 2nd April at Wolverhampton, she was once again in form beating her long time bogey player, Suffolk's Isobel McGerty, 11-7, 6-11, 11-9, 11-5 in her group, Worcestershire's Emily Grove in five sets but just losing out 10-12 in the fourth set against Cheshire's Niamh Scarborough to come runner-up in her group. In the last 16 she had to play England No. 12, Saskia Key, but Heidi's long pimples proved too much for the Kent girl as Heidi won in just three sets. In the quarter finals she unluckily was drawn against the experienced England No. 4 junior, Anaya Patel, who showed her class taking out Heidi comfortably in three straight sets. So with several more years in this age group who knows what beckons for Heidi. ... See MoreSee Less

Well done Violet-Lily. In her first National Schools Championship Individual Under 11 competition she comfortably beat all five opponents in her group to qualify for the quarter finals. Unfortunately the luck of the draw meant she faced and subsequently lost to the new National Champion who is a year older. One of the girls she beat in her group who went through as runner-up had a better draw and reached the semi-finals. Hopefully Violet-Lily will be on the winners rostrum next year. ...
